Bolivia, julio de 2025.- Con la participación de diversos sectores comprometidos con la conservación de la naturaleza, WWF presentó PantaNow, un esfuerzo trinacional impulsado por sus oficinas en Bolivia, Brasil y Paraguay. Esta iniciativa de colaboración, diálogo y acción nace con el objetivo de proteger el Pantanal, el humedal de agua dulce más grande del planeta, y enfrentar de manera conjunta los crecientes desafíos que amenazan su biodiversidad, sus ecosistemas y a las comunidades que dependen de él.
Con una superficie de más de 170.000 km², el Pantanal es hogar de una riqueza natural invaluable y sustento de más de 1.5 millones de personas que dependen directamente de sus recursos. No obstante, en las últimas décadas, el ecosistema ha sufrido pérdidas alarmantes: el 74% de su agua superficial ha desaparecido en 30 años y la deforestación se ha cuadruplicado.
Frente a esta situación, PantaNow surge como una necesidad de respuesta articulada y esperanzadora, construida sobre más de 20 años de experiencia de WWF en la región. PantaNow es el mensaje que surge del Plan de Acción Ecorregional, 2022-2030 desarrollado en colaboración con comunidades, productores, socios locales y autoridades del sector público.
Durante la presentación, Liceette Chavarro, coordinadora regional de la iniciativa, destacó: “El Pantanal es un tesoro natural que trasciende fronteras. Con PantaNow, apostamos por un trabajo trinacional que une conocimientos, compromisos y voluntades para proteger este ecosistema con visión de futuro. Invitamos a trabajar sobre la posibilidad de una coordinación que siga uniendo esfuerzos trinacionales desde las distintas instancias, en los cuatro pilares estratégicos que sustentan el plan de acción.”
Estos pilares abarcan, desde la promoción de energías renovables y la gestión del agua que permita mantener los caudales naturales, hasta el fortalecimiento de áreas protegidas y soluciones basadas en la naturaleza con comunidades locales e indígenas. También incluyen la apuesta por prácticas sostenibles en agricultura y ganadería para alcanzar la meta de cero deforestación y conversión, y el impulso de una conciencia colectiva y acción política que valore la importancia de los humedales saludables.
Con PantaNow, WWF a nivel global, reafirma su compromiso con la conservación, proponiendo un modelo que integra ciencia, sostenibilidad, actores locales y gobernanza, para asegurar un Pantanal vivo, resiliente y conectado para las generaciones presentes y futuras.
